The Gherkin Building, by London-based architect Norman Foster, is a magnificent, 180 meters tall office building located in 30 st. Mary Axe, London, UK.
The modern, almost futuristic structure of the Gherkin provides flexible office space as well as spectacular, 360 degrees panoramic views from the restaurant and lounge bar at the top of the building.
With spiraling lightwells, to maximize natural light and ventilation, as well as extracted air cooling the fully glazed double-skinned facade, this piece of architecture is considered London’s first environmentally progressive working environment.
Norman Foster didn’t just design the Gherkin Building, he also produced a beautiful, triplex mouth blown acid etched glass with a chrome metal base table lamp in its image, called The Gherkin table lamp.
