Inspired by the popular art of South America, Asia and East Europe, this quirky bunch was designed by the famous textile designer Alexander Girard, which alongside Charles and Ray Eames as well as George Nelson, was one of the decisive figures in post-War American design.
Based on the original Wooden Dolls found in the Girard Estate in Santa Fe, the Vitra Design Museum has reissued models 1 through 11 of Girard’s brightly painted, half decorative element, half toy, partly joyful and partly grim-looking company of dolls. …I love these dolls. So charming and full of character.
Toys, said Alexander Girard, represent a microcosm of mans world and dreams; they exhibit fantasy, imagination, humor and love.
Hand painted and crafted from solid pinewood, each doll comes individually packaged in a printed wooden gift box. I consider these charming sculptural figures as pure classics, which I’m sure would make a beautiful gift for every Girard fan and toy lover!
