Located in Athens, Vermont, this extension of an existing century-old barn is used as a recording studio, providing both relaxing rural views as well as a suitable working place for musicians.
SsD Architecture took acoustics aspects into consideration as well as the existing house on the site and its rural surrounding, and created a unique pitched roof with a prefabricated scissor-shaped truss, bringing light throughout the day via east and west skylights.
On the inside, this unusual form creates an asymmetrical space allowing for better acoustics and scattering of sound.
An inset front wall creates a porch-like space for musicians to relax and take breaks between sessions.
