Located in the picturesque setting of Angra dos Reis, one hour drive south of Rio de Janeiro, this modern tropical beach house is a remarkable piece of architecture. The big leaf-shaped roof is the most prominent feature of the Leaf House, perfectly suited for the hot and humid climate of its site.
The roof provides protection from the hot sun for both enclosed and open spaces of this beautiful home.
The essence of the design is manifested in those in-between open spaces, which serve as social areas, where the the owner of the house and his guests spend most of their time.
These spaces feature 3 to 9 meters heights, allowing south-east winds to pass freely through the house, providing natural ventilation and passive cooling throughout the structure.
The indoor/outdoor experience is achieved perfectly – the house has no corridors, and glazed sliding doors open up the enclosed spaces and let the sea breeze in – enhancing the interaction between man and nature.
