One of the things I like about this house is its simplicity and warmth. Both the cozy and informal interior design as well as the inviting exterior fit perfectly together with the flat rural setting and the 15 green acres of surrounding paddock.
This lovely home is located 50km north of Wellington, New Zealand; lying between the Tararua Ranges to the east and seaside sand dunes to the west, in a small rural settlement by the name of Te Horo.
The planning of the structure is based on a dominant linear earth wall, running from east to west, lightly supporting a pitched roof; a series of openings and external spaces capture sun and views, creating various indoor-outdoor, public and private living spaces.
The wall forms part of an enclosure of trees thus exploring the idea of the walled garden; or garden wall. Large numbers of trees have been planted to the east and west which, in conjunction with the house, define huge outdoor rooms.
