1 car key, 2 house keys, 2 keys to the office, 1 key for the mailbox , 1 key to my parent’s apartment and the spare key for my son’s bike – everyday I carry around 8 keys. I admit this is cumbersome and noisy and every time I reach a door it takes me a while to find the right key.
As with most things, I got used to this situation until I found a simple solution. Realizing that I most probably wasn’t the only person lugging a bulky keychain I decided to share my knowledge and tell you about the Keyport.
The Keyport consolidates 6 keys into a container the size of a traditional auto key fob. Each key is color coded and can be accessed with a slide of a thumb. The Keyport is compact and lightweight; it weighs less than six standard keys, and it holds the keys securely so they don’t jangle or scratch. It also accommodates the newer types of keys: chipped automobile and motorcycle keys and high-security keys.
To order the Keyport you need to provide them with a picture and description of the keys you want to use (all the advice and information on how to do this safely and securely is provided on the Keyport website). In return you receive by overnight delivery the key blanks (every key is matched with an identifiable blank), the Keyport box with the slide and connecting colored studs). Any locksmith will cut your blanks to match the keys. You then insert a colored stud into each cut blank and slide it into one of the six slots. Easy and sleek, you are now the proud owner of a streamlined keychain!
Another nice touch is that every unit has a serial number in case you need to recover a lost or mislaid Keyport.
After rethinking my keychain situation, I now leave the key to my son’s bike and my parent’s apartment at home and carry around just the neat Keyport slider.
