Look what I found in an old textile manufacturing hall in Stockholm, Sweden. It took me a couple of minutes to fully understand what I’m looking at… A colorful, pixelated wall that seems to be in constant movement. It has the most vibrant presence, and it’s made of stacked bundles of unsold magazines. Imagine, a magazine wall, like no other.
The Oktawall, or at least I think that’s its name, is both an interesting and creative design element, as well as a perfect solution for recycling. Designed by Elding Oscarson Architects for the Stockholm-based graphic design agency, Octave Illa.
“The original idea was to actually use full magazine stacks. That would however be really, really heavy so in the end we decided against that. Instead the magazines were cut in thirds. This also made the construction easier as the stacks were a lot easier to handle.”
