Too many times I’ve found myself in this situation: I’ m rushing out of work at the last minute to get a gift for a birthday party, dinner party or other festive occasion that I completely forgot about. Luckily I can usually get away with a nice bottle of wine or pampering toiletries but then I get home and I realize I also need to wrap them.
Since the local drugstore wrapping paper won’t do (telltale sign…) and the only available rolls around the house have a Christmassy or baby-shower theme I resort to “home-made” (plain white paper which I decorate with glitter glue or stickers from my girls’ stash). While this is ultra personalized (“it’s not a bug it’s a feature…”) it’s exhausting and then I also need to be creative and add a home-made card to go with it. It seems that the lack of “universal” wrapping paper triggered the idea of the “wordless” wrapping paper.
Fabio Milito and Francesca Guidotti are two Italian designers who decided to solve it in an amusing way. The “wordless” wrapping paper is designed like a word search puzzle, by marking the greeting of your choice you personalize the wrapping and at the same time eliminate the need for a card. You can choose from one of twenty different messages:
MERRY CHRISTMAS / HAPPY BIRTHDAY / HAPPY VALENTINES DAY / HAPPY EASTER / HAPPY THANKSGIVING / I LOVE YOU / I MISS YOU / HAPPY NAME DAY / CONGRATULATIONS / HAPPY RETIREMENT / RECOVER SOON / GREETINGS WITH LOVE / YOU ARE THE BEST / FOR DAD / FOR MOM / ENJOY / ALL THE BEST / IT IS NOT A TIE / IT IS NOT A PERFUME
The word search “solutions” are printed on the inner side of the wrapping paper but you can be really creative and find words to create your very own message. You can think of this wrapping paper as “one wrapping paper for all occasions” or as “very personalized wrapping paper”, I just think it’s creative and fun (and allows me another 10 minutes in the shower!)
