This is going to date me, but the minute I saw the design of the Tetris Couch I had a quick flash to my happy video game playing days. During the 80’s anyone who had a home computer had to play Tetris. The game got its’ greatest popularity kick with the launching of the handheld Game Boy version. Video game consoles, PDAs and mobile devices all have versions of the game winning it the title of the “Greatest Game of All Time”.
Tetris was created in 1984 by Alexey Pajitnov. Pajintov, an avid lover of puzzles and gaming came up with this catchy game that involved square based “falling” pieces that players could arrange in real time along the bottom of the rectangular playing field, or “matrix,” in order to clear lines. Since its creation more than 125 million Tetris products have been sold. The beauty of Tetris as a game is that its widespread and loved by so many people, regardless of age, culture and education.
The iconic graphics have also inspired countless reproductions: dishes, accessories, clothing and shoes, tattoos, cakes and jewelry to name a few. A new addition to this retro game is the Tetris couch designed by Stefano Grasselli. This piece of lounge furniture is basically a set of 8 sections of different dimensions, size and color. Each section is like a small couch with four legs which you move around and rearrange, just like the Tetris pieces and there is also a semi- transparent square that can be attached at the edge and serves as an end table. The couch has cushions that can be lifted at an angle to help you relax more comfortably.
So whenever you’re in the mood for some retro fun or you just want to refresh your furniture arrangement just start moving the pieces and enjoy a cool game of “Couch Tetris”.
