This could possibly be my dream home – it’s modern, compact, efficient, and affordable, surrounded by trees and greenery in a laid back town.
The house features 1,650 sq. ft. of space, consisting of an open kitchen with French doors leading to a patio with a fire pit on the first floor – check!
a home office, bedroom, guest room and yoga space on the second floor – check!
All I can say is that if I ever need to draft a home plan, that would be it.
Located in Bozeman’s North East neighborhood, this award-winning, private home actually belongs to Brian Whitlock, a resourceful sound mixer, who did a lot of the work himself. From cabinetry to landscaping and electrical work, he managed to keep his budget at $165 per sq. ft. while the project took approximately 8 months to complete.
One of his money-saving tricks was to combine custom-made and off-the-shelf products; for example, tweaking interior walls to fit the size of an IKEA storage system, result in built-in high-end storage. Here’s another tip for you! Using concrete for the first floor is an inexpensive alternative to stone, wood, or tile.
The exterior of the house is cladded with gray bonderized steel shingles; when combined with a splash of green and orange/red color for doors and window frames, the outcome is beautiful and contemporary. Another great architectural feature are the boxy protrusions on the facade, adding a sense of depth and three-dimensionality. The project also includes solar hot-water and rainwater catchment systems.
