Not a Single White Wall

You may not believe this, but Mikkel’s apartment in Denmark doesn’t have a single white wall in it. Not one. However, his interior design and color scheme choices show us that color and pattern can also be hosts to a bright and airy space.

The dominating colors in this space are shades of blue, turquoise and grey – commonly agreed to be pretty calming and refreshing colors. The ceiling, doors, frames and mouldings are uniformly white, which combined with a desaturated wood floor help to maintain that calmness despite additions of exciting colors and striking patterns.

As you browse the images, you’ll be struck by the amount of fun and sometimes quite bold ideas packed into this one space.

I love the retro pattern of the wallpaper in the living room. On the topic of wallpaper, did you see how Mikkel used wallpaper in the bedroom to accent the bed and certain furniture pieces? The bird mural in the living room was painted by a friend who actually specializes and prefers doing gory graffiti, ha! Overall, this place is full of personality and bold statements – but you can feel it’s honest. The owner expresses his own unique vibe and I admire that.
