Sometimes I see a house and start loving it immediately just because of single feature… In the case of this summer house, located in Marina di Castagneto Carducci, Tuscany, Italy, such a feature was the travertine cladding of the outer walls. Some might say this is not a sufficient reason to mention this house, but I’m already smitten…
The big-scaled, active texture of the stone makes the walls so solid, serene and natural that it seems they have been standing there for ages. Only the minimalistic glass planes of the openings don’t let you forget this is a modern house (as a matter of fact it is the house of the 60-s, which was newly refurbished).
The big pine trees, which grow very close to the travertine facades, look like they are an integral part of the exterior design. Their distinctive, beautiful, brown-reddish bark fits ideally to the travertine print of the walls.
The wooden boards that form a decked terrace in front of the facades complete this picture-perfect home, creating a nature-inspired exterior to the house.
Looking for a wall cladding material? Go for travertine. Italians know good design!
