This amazing structure looks more like a imaginary sculpture, than a building. It’s situated in Newfoundland’ Shoal Bay, serving as one of the six artist studios designed for the Fogo Island Arts Corporation. The 50 sq. meter, twisted body of this tower is undoubtedly the most outstanding landmark of the region, as its silhouette beautifully dominates over the landscape, attracting attention to this art object.
The unique shape of the tower studio is cladded with black panels, strengthening the effect of the distorted, yet solid body. The outer appearance of the building is made even more interesting by the unexpected contrast: the part of the facade – the plane where the entrance is situated and the plane above it – is white! Moreover, the twist of its body creates a canopy above the entrance.
By making this part white, in contrast to the totally black body, it looks like this section has been cut off… a tricky effect, underlined by the overall white color of the interior space! But the building is not only exciting on its own. Its additional advantage is its location – endless horizons and peaceful, undisturbed landscapes – what more could an artist wish for…
