Tasting a good wine among the finest vineyards of Chile… could it get any better than this? Mirador House fulfills these requirements in a very inventive way. Casablanca Valley is a wine region in Central Chile in Valparaiso Region. The coastal cool climate provides a considerable concentration of Chile’s Chardonnay plantations. Mirador House functions as a wine tasting pavilion where visitors can appreciate the exquisite taste of the fruit in the same spot where it grows every passing year.
Respecting this exceptional site became the crucial task: a sensible building for a sensible context, full of natural values. Two massive blocks separated by an empty space were built with a special land-dyed concrete cast with large openings. An entry patio leads our steps to the entrance area: a first space for reception precedes the main room, an open space for dining with a large table and a kitchen area followed by an intimate living room for tasting.
A varied set of windows is cleverly spread throughout the facade in order to enhance each moment of this experience amongst the magnificent natural surroundings. A full height glass wall offers an infinite view to the dining area while calculated openings punctuate the remaining rooms creating clear perspectives of specific points of the landscape.
The secret ingredient to merge architecture with nature is evident: the apparent concrete was mixed on site, enough to pour one layer at a time… this constructive method was a determinant factor to marry building and land in an efficient and poetic way.
