Soft, tidy and simple – this houseplant planter series could well herald a new design wave for indoor greenery. Instead of a solid pot cluttering a surface, plants are hung in a breathable layered canvas pocket, with compost replaced partly by water-holding clay granules. The series is easy to install, and pockets can be hung on one another, with water monitors to read the soil moisture in the center.
The shape of the bags is minimal without being stark, and the coated polyester fabric is neutral and adaptable. The belts and fasteners that Nadeau also designed in the series have a similar aesthetic, and allow you to fit something very professional-looking.
Inside, the technology leverages on the ‘sandwich’ of clay granules that surround the felt ‘sac’ (available separately) containing the central plant roots and compost. Don’t worry – it is simple to plant up just put the roots and compost in the internal sac as usual, then pop into the hang bag with clay granules. This prevents water dripping everywhere but won’t drown the plant. Instead, it’s released slowly (saving you fiddly watering time too).
This, matched with the drop shape, make the Urban Garden series a wicked solution for space-starved places. They would also look great hung in windows, and would give your baby greens the most light that way.
Finally some nice touches make the product extra user friendly; firstly the handy size guide so you can plan if re-potting existing plants, the water level gauge that tells you quick and easy how thirsty your beloved plants are, and additional climber rods available so you can coax your ivy upwards.
