Interior designer Tina Komninou has given new life to a home in Hydra, Greece. I dream of projects like this where the home’s original features are valued, respected, and showcased. A home would have to be this elegant to keep one inside when the weather outside and spectacular views of the sea and the historic town are calling.
It may be difficult to truly decide what is original and what is new since new pieces are all hand crafted and quickly and individually artistic. The best example is the kitchen where new white washed concrete counters wrap around today’s latest appliances. The original wood ceiling and beams have their honey color luster restored as they stretch between thickly sliced rough stone walls.
Kitchen equipment is minimal as I imagine simple meals of fresh food from the market and fish from the sea. The real star is under foot below the glass floor that lets you peer in to the food storage area below!
A perfectly proportioned ebony bed seems to frame the intricate and worn ceiling medallion in the main bedroom. Another bed is tucked in a high narrow volume beneath an arch outlined window and a canopy of aged beams and wood.
In the bath, twin marble sinks fill from the latest wall mounted faucets. Concrete counters and shelves act as a gallery for beautiful necessities.
