Less is almost always more, particularly when it comes to interior design, but not normally with money. This simply but ultra-cool farmhouse was an amazing exception, the owners managed to generate a unique and tasteful 1200 sq ft rental, not despite, but thanks to the tight budget.

Doubtless the couple who nabbed and overhauled this space were born with extremely good taste. Firstly they noticed the bare-bones beauty of a ramshackle place. Secondly they completed the refurbishment at low cost, yet avoiding a cheap look with ease. And thirdly, well, the design is extremely beautiful on its own.

Scrubbed tidiness is the phrase that comes to mind to express the effect of the choice of whitewashed wood plus white walls and raw materials (e.g un-dyed leather poofs, the lush natural wood bar and a patina-ed simple silver beaker for toothbrushes) . No shag pile, dark shiny marble or useless figurines to be seen, this house keeps it simple and therefore purposeful. The pallet is entirely white and neutral, plus pops of dark navy and mustard yellow, with wood accents

Regarding the decoration, ‘just enough’ is the way to sum it up. Ornamentation is there, but showcases precious items such as the West Elm chairs in the living room and unusual items such as the oversize depth measuring stick at the base of the stairs. Overall the feel is like a functional gallery, which celebrates these great features without clutter

Non standard, but Raina and Robert nailed it – we should all learn from their attitude to design; “Don’t sweat the small stuff. Easier said then done!”.

I just don’t understand how they resist moving into it themselves.
