Seattle has a reputation for gloomy weather and if you need a refuge from that, this home is always bright! Completely remodeled, each spacious room has a sunny and airy disposition. The tricks used by JAS Design Build to make this happen are abundant and work like magic. Start by painting all the formerly dark stained wood white with a very soft sheen. And I mean paint nearly all the simple yet precisely crafted wood work white from the beams and beaded wood overhead to the wainscot and window frames. Can you picture the dramatic difference from the dark to white wood?
Next sweep the hearty grain wood floor with a rich roasted chestnut color and walk that floor through both levels of the house. Now paint the walls in the muted tones of earth and sky that you see outside the windows on many days. Cleverly use every inch of the building like hidden nooks and height-challenged areas for a secret sleeping spot or always in demand storage.
Eliminate window coverings or keep them light if they’re needed for privacy. Just say no to kitchen wall cabinets and use a simple shelf and a room dividing wall of storage. I’m completely charmed by the lemon yellow island!
And to infuse the home with life, use brightly colored furnishings with bare legs and feet that float above the floor. Their area rug selections are perfect – bold and graphic or muted and shy to balance each room’s personality.
