Battery Park Studio Apartment: Geniusly Small

Studio apartments can be, frankly, stifling in their size and physical limitations. And with a bustling noisy city outside it can feel as though spaces are too small and there’s no place to relax. Well, forget all those troubles and let’s explore a genius solution brought to life through exquisite finesse and detail, in Battery Park, New York.

Jordan Parnass Digital Architecture created a sleek and warm wooden marvel that works very hard while looking chic at the same time.

The crisp unadorned cube’s main function is to privately support a queen bed on its lofty top. Just use the integrated open ladder to take you there. Around the corner there are purposeful storage and display shelves. Then large nearly invisible doors take you to the deep storage area inside the cube.

The entire piece was fabricated off site and then installed in one day inside the studio. I love how it is unadorned by frills and ornamentation and how it stands elegantly without visible hardware. Its light wood with a soft sheen reflects light.

They’ve also crafted a desk wall with slim storage that appears to float, managed by using a deeply recessed base. The cabinet top has a back beveled edge and it appears to float. This cleverly allows the cabinet doors, also back beveled, to conceal their own pull. I would gladly find comfort and relaxation in the beauty of these details.
