I’ve always tried to make whatever television or computer setup I have resemble a movie theater as much as possible. I dreamed of pocket projects that would blast a film onto my old, completely white college dorm room wall. I bought big, external monitors for my laptop that sit high above my bed to produce a somewhat cavernous cinematic feel. Knowing of celebrities that built home theaters in their houses with soda cup holders and unlimited popcorn, I cannot help but think I will never have an impressive setup such as theirs.
For the family, though, Cinebox, designed by Open Air Cinema, is a series of outdoor theater systems that give you the grand movie experience without an expensive redesign of your basement. Available in four different models, each ascending in total screen size, the Cinebox satisfies anyone’s specifications.
Cinebox’s can be made to show 3D, high-definition, or standard definition video, with a Blu-ray player and HD projector accompanying the high-definition setup, and a standard-definition DVD player and projector with the lower-tier version. Gamers even have the option of an HD 1080p package that includes a Sony Playstation 3 integrated into the Cinebox setup.
It’s not necessarily a cheap option for home cinema setups, but if you live in the suburbs, always consider everything as relative to a car. The Cinebox’s are about 1/5th of what you’d pay for a new car. And because the world of film is inevitably cooler than the commute to work, go for a used car and bring the magic of the big screen to your backyard.
