Stacked shipping containers seem to offer an infinite range of solutions: this time the composition serves a retail store in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Decameron Store by Studio MK27 shows us how to transform a universal module into a real piece of modern architecture. With a limited budget, an existing metal warehouse was the starting point of an unconventional solution: two rows of stacked shipping containers combined with polycarbonate panels create a unique showroom for retail.
Vibrant colors painted on the external surfaces of the containers are fully revealed when a series of translucent sliding doors unfold the interior atmosphere. Blue, red, yellow, green and pink work as a small urban landmark: an ingenious detail that makes all the difference to the store’s success.
The shipping containers function as exhibit galleries where the customer can see the products lined along the walls of narrow hallways. A courtyard garden with palm trees separates the showroom from the office areas.
Smooth concrete flooring contrast the intense color of the stacked units while the polycarbonate panels of the sliding doors reveal an enigmatic power: at night, the facade of the warehouse glows like a lantern revealing shadows of people moving inside the showroom.
