If you’re a true nature-lover, then Geuloever will inspire you to build the Eco-house of your dreams. Situated in Gulpen-Witten, The Netherlands this small prefabricated wooden house is full of surprising details. It was carefully designed to become a natural part of the surrounding landscape: a floating wooden structure resting over several poles constructed from local trees – an effective solution for the constant threat of flooding in the area.
The distribution of the program is quite simple and practical: a wooden staircase and a ramp lead to a terraced entry area. Once passed the front door, an open space conceals living, dining and kitchen areas immersed with daylight by full-height windows. Two bedrooms and a toilet complete the interior of this small prefab cabin.
The facade presents an unusual type of material: burned cypress planks provide a mysterious appearance to Geuloever. The remaining constructive elements are made from local trees. But there’s a final revelation for those who still wonder about the real Eco-friendly values of this prefab house: built in only three months, Geuloever features sustainable systems such as waste water purification, solar panels, underground ventilation pipes and thick insulation.
