Bungalows have a style, charm, and spirit that are hard to recreate. Bungalows of this era were built when families gathered around the dining table and enjoyed the radio program by the fire. And this beauty, like so many others, was limited in size and modern amenities. Enter JAS Design Build to remedy the lack of size and light and bring this charmer in to the 21st century.
Nothing enlarges a space like allowing light to meander through uninterrupted. Walls were removed, creating generous rooms that flow over the coffee stained hard wood floors. The sun porch, formerly seasonal only, was brought in to the year round mix by a large wide white wood framed opening. The kitchen has a multitude of work or prep or create surfaces and even a semi-private windowed office area. Upstairs the brand new bedroom suite feels as though it’s always been there.
The real tricks that tie this home together are the sophisticated use of color and materials and eras. Wood floors wind through out, windows have multiple glass panes over one large pane, exterior shingles remain on the wall of the sun porch, subway tiles protect the back splash, punched metal doors ventilate upper cabinets, white hexagonal tiles line the bath floor – all clues to a gone but not forgotten time. Fresh pops of color in cabinetry and furnishings set the upbeat mood. All of these, combined with the blend of furnishings that appear to have been collected over many years, create a bright bungalow fit for a modern family.
