How do you make a lasting and delicious impression based on modern graffiti and fashion? Architect Sergio Mahkno makes it look easy in this colorful upscale dining establishment in Kiev, Russia. Housed in a windowless space, the architect created brilliant and flexible lighting in several manners. The feature of the day is the light cloud created, on a budget, through the use of hundreds of inexpensive Mason jars turned lights. You can dial up the lights for lunch crowds and dial them down for soft dinner ambiance. Translucent panels mimic windows and their changing colored lights speak to the runway and graffiti covered bridges.

I love the graceful use of large planes of wood and concrete and black. Their usual weightiness and clumsiness have been removed through the sophisticated treatment of their interaction – placement, polishing, tilting, finishing. In a private dining area, quirky wood panels and pops of color bring the soothing grey room to life. I can just feel the smooth and thirsty polish of the concrete walls and the velvety comfort of the chairs.

If you’re lucky, you may just host a private party in my favorite room. Imagine two walls of dark wide plank wood offsetting two walls of rich plum paint. Now fill that room with comfy and elegant seating in pops of color you only dream of using. Add in graphic glowing art and your best friends and enjoy your meal…priyatnogo appetite.
