Leave your cares on the shore of the Hunte River in Oldenburg, Germany, and climb aboard the Silver Beaver. This bright and airy house boat is the second designed by architect Flo Florian and designer Sascha Akkermann. They’ve created an enticing loft with beautiful tactile necessities where nature lulls you to sleep. I could spend hours floating along enjoying the view and the pristine casual comfort inside.
An open plan space houses cooking, dining, and lounging. I imagine the creative owners experimenting with the furniture as the seasons change or if they’re floating down a different river. In this very angular space it’s a delight to see a few curvy pieces.
The two cats have their own private designer rooms on the wall near the fire. The Odu (cave) chair, designed by the owners, adds a sense of relaxation from geometry. The graphic grey and white flooring looks as though sparkly rippling water was captured and enlarged and poured over as if it was flowing right in from the river.
Crisp white kitchen cabinets become delicious with a warm walnut wood trim. The weathered trunk at the front door anchors the space with its storage and has its own stories to tell. A trio of mid-century modern chairs, dressed in leather and nubby upholstery, do their best to keep you inside.
