What I admire most about well-traveled individuals is their ability to travel spontaneously and lightly. They always seem to pack just the perfectly appropriate clothing and items for any weather or situation. Or is it that they adapt very quickly to circumstances? I’m guessing this psychologist/homeowner travels as lightly as his home and in the most stylish way.
In Prato, Italy, architect Sabrina Bignami created a glowing white gallery-like space from a dull 1980s casa. As if pointing to the next space, glossy white wood floors stretch diagonally across the home. That luminous glow travels up the walls that shine from a lime treatment.
Exquisite and unique pieces sparingly and purposefully placed around the home were selected by the owner and the architect. Especially in the living area a wall of richly colored boxes from a Belgian wool producer act as storage and display.
The architect topped the dining table’s Saarinen designed base. And the renowned Zettel ’76 lamp, designed by Ingo Maurer, floats overhead. The kitchen is elegantly functional with its polished concrete counters and brushed stainless steel storage. Antique wood tops a work table that’s illuminated by black bistro pendants. I’d like to think I could reduce my kitchen to this stylish and worldly back-to-basics design.
