This turn of the century, 1800s to 1900s, home in Rindo, Sweden, is decidedly neutral in palette and suspended between historic and modern, providing the luxuries of both. Typically rich in sunlight and volume, the apartment boasts caramel colored parquet carpets with intricate inlay borders in each room.
The combined living and dining areas are warmed by a generous yet unadorned wood burning fireplace. Textures provide depth and warm and variety and I’m always amazed at the richness you can create with a neutral color palette. There’s a wealth of linen and woven grasses and soft worn rounded wood and hammered metal and wire and furs.
The pure white kitchen is graced with a parquet carpet and butcher block counters. Single panel cabinets line both sides of the room and pop open with a pull of the brushed satin egg pulls. Bertoia wire chairs gather around a Saarinen tulip table and beg you to linger over your coffee in front of the wall of windows.
Both bedrooms are simply luxurious with thick and deeply tufted silky headboards. One room’s headboard and sumptuous rug are the color of sand and its plush quilt a rich deep charcoal. The other bedroom’s headboard and rug are steel grey with a silver cloud like quilt.
Water views are abundant from inside or from one of two balconies, off the dining room and the additional lounge. This more private lounge has a deep grey sofa and rug is spacious and bright with large windows and doors.
