Mews 04: New Sine in London

This Hyde Park, London residence has been given a new lease on life through the blend of classical spaces and modern sensibilities. What began as a wish to transform a 1980s timber framed conservatory, became the design catalyst for the entire home. A glass sine curve replaced the former barrel vaulted space. Not only did this avoid extensive planning review, the modern form is elegant and worth repeating throughout the home.

Bronze and glass doors pair with thousands of hand cut marble tiles, laid in their own wave, greet you in the entrance. A lyrical red and gold tapestry, a flamboyant gilded console, and a velvet upholstered gilt chair make a grand statement.

Enter the lounge through bronze and insect etched glass doors where the mood lightens and you find yourself heading straight to the three tall and bright views beyond. You’ll stay for the casually elegant comfort though, anchored by charcoal or cream colored chairs for just you.

A modern glass coffee table and a brushed gold and scrolled marble topped console make each other shine. A stretched out pebble grey sofa’s deep thick cushions lure you. Personally I’ll be lounging on the exquisitely understated chaise, with a book from the abundant open book shelves.

The galley kitchen is streamlined in function and size yet bright with its window and reflective glass cabinets and pendant lights. Even a tiny stainless table for two has its own skylight. The baths are modern luxury, one lined with richly colored and heavily grained chocolate colored marble. And the main bath continues the sine curve in an oval soaking tub of white marble.
