If you’ve always loved the views of a tree house but feel the need to be grounded, this is the home for you. Located on Folly Island on South Carolina’s coast, the home enjoys sea breezes and marsh views as far as the eye can see. Sleeping areas are connected to the living area by glass covered bridges so you always feel connected to nature.
The main living area is a grown up tree house with exposed timber framing forming an open to the tree tops gable. Wrap glass around both sides as well and you feel like you’re truly outdoors. Step on to the deck beyond the polished concrete modern fireplace. Pine cone colored wood floors spread through the home and have rich personality and character.
The living area has luxurious deep seating, a beveled glass coffee table that floats on two burled wood pedestals, and a sandy shag rug. I’m surprised how much I love the limited palette of nature’s foundation colors – cream, grey, brown. The views and interior comfort stand on their own without the need for nature’s colorful flourishes.
A compact kitchen with a glass topped breakfast bar is central to the breakfast nook and the dining area. Eight can gather for dinner in this stunning space with two walls of glass and a fireplace of its own. An interesting slatted wood wall treatment leads to a bedroom and bath. Soothing earth tones appear again in the bath. But they can’t compete with the pebble floored shower and its full height window looking out over the marsh.
