I’m always amazed at the stylish ways to make the most of what many would consider spatially challenged spaces. This small three room apartment in Stockholm does it again. Perhaps it’s the enviable tall ceilings and herringbone wood floors that provide a solid foundation and inspiration to make the most of them. Generous windows provide volume-increasing day light.
Another trick is to use the least amount of furnishings necessary to make your life comfortable and functional. Yet these pieces must each have style and substance and often be dual purpose. The lounge sofa is light on its wooden feet yet deep with ivory cushioned ease. A two-tiered cart on wheels acts as the coffee table and magazine rack. Above the seating a floating white shelf holds simply framed black and white prints. A trend-setting centered ceiling pendant hovers above.
The sleeping space is tucked in to a niche behind two track-sliding white panels. Cloud like pendants drift over the lofty bed and its concealed storage. Another floating white shelf displays a graphic print and figurine, while acting as the head board.
The entry has a small thin slab desk with floating shelves. A storage niche is open and lined with rods for hanging and boxes above. The kitchen’s all white cabinets and pearly tile back splash are enriched by the butcher block wood counters and the weathered wood floor. A deep window well holds plants as does the multi-purpose step stool. A tulip table and two white chairs are lit by a light and airy open ivory globe.
