Nestling in to the wild yet protective elements of nature on the forested shores of Georgian Bay is an idyllic modern home. TACT Architecture designed this habitat for a young couple eager to escape city life.
Resting lightly on the land, the structure maximizes views, day light, solar heat gain, super insulated walls and roof, and natural cooling.
Pristine interiors take ultimate advantage of the stunning site. The home is an incredible example of keeping functional elements, like the kitchen, on an interior wall. However, its open plan maintains the connection to the outdoors. Three enormous windows reach out from the central living, dining, and kitchen areas.
Polished concrete radiant slabs stretch throughout. They are low maintenance and the tactile surface feels fabulous under foot. A straightforward crisp wooden table and benches have the best seats in the public spaces of the house. Yet the L-shaped linen sofa that views a sleek fireplace is a close second. Here a low-slung thick concrete slab rests under linear grainy grey tile and over concealed storage with a dark tea stained timber face. Of course, fire wood storage is required and it resides logically under the fireplace.
Flanking each side of the central living space are bedrooms and baths. The main suite is a stunner with the bed facing a full windowed wall. The headboard is a low wall of wood that extends up three stairs to the open bath. Soaking in the tub with that incredible view is like a daily escape. Glass sheets enclose the rest of the bathroom so nature is always in view.
