In the desert sands of Naftah, Tunisia, a luxury hotel will sweep you away. Rising from the sand, the ochre architecture takes its cues from the climate, along with local tradition and building materials. This collaborative creation by Matali Crasset, Patrick Elouarghi, and Philippe Chapelet, is a spiritual oasis to be explored individually or with family and friends.
Three building types offer remarkable and varying views of the dunes, the salt lake, or the palm grove. Pill Houses surround and rise above a square complete with a pool, fountains, and a bar. Soaked in soothing sandy texture and tone inside and out, while indoors saturated pops of color balance the intense sun light. Vivid built-in lounges and sleeping areas suspend themselves out beyond the getaway’s foot print with a solid enclosure and a face of glass, as if you’re floating. Just lower the exterior sun shade for privacy.
The Dunes are at desert level and the thick walled construction and limited carefully placed windows provide stunning views within the cool shell. The Troglodyte rooms are made from locally crafted bricks. Independent with their own terraces, they gather around a tiny square featuring a bread oven.
Private spaces, shared rooms, and public squares at Dar Hi exemplify a soft solidity and comfort. An idyllic retreat that is a perfect balance of warm and cool, substantial and delicate, vibrant and neutral will make you linger.
