Kid in a candy store is what I envision in this dynamic design by Reba Jones of Butler Armsden Architects. Or, more accurately, it is the dream space of every stylish adult mixologist. Forget the wine cellar as the bold flair of classic and modern cocktails gains popularity again.
In the SF Decorator Showcase, the drama within is created by a perfect blend of retro and modern, portly and slight, somber and gregarious. The envelope is like a classically tailored rich grey men’s suit, perfectly fitted and elegantly executed. Mirrors on the ceiling double the room’s punch and sparkle. The dynamic and irregular painted floor graphics vibrantly invoke the geometric and abstract flair of Frank Stella. In contemporary and slightly more restrained hues, the patterns mimic the tones of the display case.
A work of art in itself, the case’s floating tangerine acrylic shelves are framed by an Italian marble surround. Suspended on stainless steel cables, the shelves display works in clear glass: distillations in progress, cocktail components, and final creations.
To show the serious side, a stainless steel surgical table works and serves. Notations on your work can be kept indefinitely on the chalk board wall. Storage is an amusing random blend of suspended open colored cube. The painted floor palette reappears in the whimsical storage cases. It’s a laboratory hosting a party and revealing all if its secret components to the guests.
