A sense of pure delight is standard in these quirky storage units. Rachel and Benoît Convers of ibride atelier de création bring a sense of history to The Dandies. Designed by Benoît and illustrated by Rachel, the glamorous pieces add drama and a concealed storage piece.
The portraits of half-animal half-human creatures are dramatic with the detail of 19th century realism. The animal-headed bodies pose regally in their ornate and proper attire. The costumes appear true to history in their elaborate detail.
Charles, a giraffe, sports a golden silk vest and an embroidered white shirt under a heavy weight black woolen coat. He pulls it all together with a black satin bow tie. His monocle and his gaze say he’s much too busy for this pose.
Arsène, a horned white sheep, in his champagne silk robe seems to be blatantly gliding off with family treasures. The architectural detail of the background supports the notions of his family’s (disappearing?) wealth.
Miss Maupin, a horned grey sheep, just returned from her morning ride. Her stiff wool top hat curves gently round her tightly wound horns. A pleated ruffled white blouse peeks through her fur collar and flocked black coat. Her gaze says she’s more fun than her appearance reveals.
It will be difficult to choose from the many personalities offered, yet The Dandies’ size allows you to collect many. At just 48 x 66 cm., they easily add a sense of functional wit to any space. The black boxes on which they float away from the wall have interior storage, revealed by just opening the illustrated panel. A side shelf provides partially concealed storage.
