These unique pieces of lighting fixtures are actually recycled lamps made from birch plywood. What makes them especially appealing is their beautiful play of shadow and light that changes with daylight. Each upcycle lamp is handmade in the Netherlands by Dutch artist Benjamin Spöth. He takes recycled birch plywood and cuts it into millimeter thin pieces. The pieces are then softened using steam. Afterwards, the treated strips are delicately manipulated to create a pattern.
The entire collection consists of five models; each one has a wonderful play of alternating straight and curved strips with different base sizes. The Twist model is even more unique as it is made up of strips placed at a slight angle which give the lamp a sense of movement.
All of the lamps have an ecological wax/oil coating and a ceramic bulb & lamp holder. The lamps come with a two meter long textile cord and have cable clamps from made from brass.
