This Arsenal Flat, completed by h2o Architectes, could easily be called the ‘Penthouse Public Library’. Chalk full of creatively fitted and custom designed shelving, this rooftop apartment reads like an epic novel, delivering ample provisions for books upon books upon more books.
You truly can’t turn a corner without multiple rows of Shakespeare’s finest literature lining the walls, a Hemingway hovering below the ceiling, or a Dr. Seuss sitting atop the somewhat psychedelic wood flooring and nestled within said shelving.
Harboring 3 living areas totaling just over 750 square feet, this flat has been maximized for every direction of the sun’s glowing presence, no matter the time of day. It offers each child within the family their own living space, as well as a living area that has moving parts in order to design and redesign the layout as any single person within the family sees fit from day to day.
The oak flooring is a beautiful contrast below the crisp white walls, and a constant flow of fresh air flows from the side-by-side micro-patio’s, separated by a small wall, which – of course – is lined with books.
The kitchen is more of a cooking nook, giving the family a minimalist zone in which to create a meal, and the eating area itself is just as unassuming. This Arsenal Flat is truly a palace for those who enjoy a weathered leather chair, or well-worn velour one, coupled with a warm blanket and a good read. It brings a whole new meaning to “the writing is on the wall”, and h2o Architectes definitely delivered a story time setting to this well-read family!
