Room on the Roof is essentially a box of bliss. The ebony wrought iron spiral staircase leads the way into a crisp white nook in which to sleep, study, star gaze …and CREATE! Located in a small tower on de Bijenkorf in Amsterdam, this historic haven has been transformed into a cultural gem. In fact, artists worldwide hear the calling to this nest infused with creative energy, and come to unabashedly utilize it.
Whether their choice of craftsmanship involves poetry, dance, film, photography or music …this is where creative kinds from all walks of life call home. At least for long enough to concoct their next piece of genius.
Equipped with a telescope in which to take in the night sky or the sprawling city and a bed to dream in, plus a dining menu for meals at any time hunger might strike, this compact space offers all an artist might need to arrive.
Designed by i29 interior architects, it was intended to be the space it is exactly used for. A unique experience to form art within, and a quiet hub to do so. Offering a very “Alice in Wonderland” feel with it’s dimension, contrast and whimsical feel in it’s entirety, there is likely literally no one who could leave their time in the Room on the Roof without arriving at their next level of creative wonders. Room on the Roof is truly where fairytales become reality!
