There is no denying that concrete is undergoing a major transformation. From a product regarded primarily as an unaesthetic ingredient in construction, concrete is now being explored by designers and used to create a wide variety of high-end products. AtelierB is a Montreal based company that has chosen to specialize in concrete design and has consistently pushed the boundaries of our perception of the material and its capabilities. A primary example of their work is the Peco Ping-Pong Table.
Co-designed with M.O. Architecture and Design Workshop, the Ping-Pong Table has an ultra-thin 1 ¼” concrete slab which rests on a Corten steel base. The result is an ultra-modern interpretation of the century old game.
The table is named Peco, after the main character of a popular Japanese Manga/ Anime titled Ping Pong (Pin Pon). The table design is highly minimalistic and has an airy and elegant feel to it. A particularly appealing element of the design is the asymmetric supporting steel structure and angular features which reflect the vitality and dynamics of the sport of Ping Pong.
The top of the table is available in either polished black or grey, and can also be ordered in Ductal or any other UHPC (ultra-high-performance concrete). The Corten steel base and matching net are also available in various colors.
