The Birdhouse is a multifunctional cabinet with a truly playful design. Created by Dutch designer Lianne Siebring, the cabinet resembles a bird house, and offers a refreshing piece that is both an eye catcher and a source of pure joy. The cabinet’s roof is ideal for placing an open book and thus doubles as a bookmark. A nice cup of coffee and a small plate of cookies fit perfectly into the house’s open body and are within easy reach. Below, the house has a little drawer for storage (that has a cut out circle that resembles that of a birdhouse) and a well-positioned lamp for light. Designers are elevating plastic design to a whole new level. The Marie-Louise Lamp, created by Dutch designer Sander Mulder, truly exemplifies this ingenuity. The designer chose to re-define the traditional ambient lamp. To this end, the Marie-Louise Lamp has a shape of a traditional lamp, and then it takes a dramatic shift. The lamp is composed of 16 transparent contours made from acrylic and polycarbonate. At the center of the piece is a fluorescent bulb (the color of which can be changed) which emanates a glow that lights up the entire piece. Continue reading →

There is an Italian expression that goes “Calma e Gesso”. It originates from the ancient game of billiards and refers to the calmness (calma) and reflection a player takes before hitting a challenging shot, as he or she rotates the chalk (gesso) atop of the cue stick. Designer Gregg Brodarick and Adriano Design took this motto and created an entire brand out of it.
