Ben & jerry’s Ice cream lock: protect your pint

ice-cream-pint-lock-bj

Ben & Jerry’s Euphhori-Lock – designed to protect your favorite ice cream and bring you peace of mind. Picture this – I come home from a long day at work, for breakfast I had coffee, for lunch fast-food at my desk, for dinner – well, that’s what I now have to prepare. After dinner there’s the washing up, getting the kids to bed, some laundry and checking my mail.

Around eleven is the “golden hour” – I can slip into my P.J’s find a nice romantic re-run on TV and get comfortable with a spoon and my favorite pint of ice-cream. And now picture me, a responsible adult, throwing one huge tantrum after discovering that the pint I was craving was EMPTY! Continue reading

Haroshi: Re-constructed skateboard art

skateboard-art-haroshi

Haroshi is a Japanese sculpture who creates beautiful works of art from old skateboards. While to us novices they may all seem the same, skateboard structure varies according to factory, brand or popular skater’s signature models.

From his early teens Hiroshi has been a passionate skateboarder. His connection to skateboards goes beyond the sport and his choice of art portrays this. His creations reflect his spirit and aesthetic as a Japanese, for him the art pieces are equal to his skateboards and as a major part of his life they also serve as a means of communicating with himself and with the outside world. Kuhn Rikon Corn Zipper: an effective kitchen gadget

corn-zipper-kuhnrikon

I love going to my local farmers’ market, the stalls are always packed with fresh produce and there’s such an abundance of colors and smells that I always end up with baskets full of fresh fruit and vegetables.

I prefer seasonal cooking but I also like to buy produce and preserve or freeze it for use later on when it’s scarcer. One of my favorites is fresh corn on the cob. I like it best at the beginning of the season when the kernels are small and sweet. I make the usual corn dishes like chowders, corn pudding and relishes and I also like to add raw kernels to my salads. Continue reading

Tyrant Alarm Clock: perfect for ruining your social life

alarm-clock-tyrant

Basically all alarm clocks work the same: at a specified time they start making so much noise that you get up just to shut them off. This is all very well for normal, disciplined people, but for those of us who like to sleep-in, it doesn’t really work.

Over the years I have become submissive to the “rule of the alarm clock” but I still find myself in situations where I have managed to completely ignore the “bells and whistles” and blissfully oversleep. There are thousands of different alarm clocks on the market but they all work in the same way: you set the time you want to wake up and then they pester you till you do. Alice Wang, a graduate of MA Design Interactions at the Royal Academy of Art, decided to re-explore the concept of the alarm clock. Continue reading

Lighthouse Oil Lamps: Light of a Safe Shore

oil-lamps-lighthouse

When we think about a lighthouse a few pictures can pop into our minds. Along with those pictures a certain feeling of being safe and secured washes over us. That is the effect given by the Lighthouse Oil Lamp – a stylish lamp that glows like a bonfire in the dark.

This unique lamp is equipped with a newly developed oil burner that really lights up the night. Furthermore, it has a unique filling system that makes it possible to fill the oil from above, so there’s no need to take the lamp apart. With a large flame, your backyard will light up, spreading a comforting glow. This is a light of a safe shore. Continue reading

DIA Digital Photo Frame: illuminating concept

digital-photo-frame-dia

Digital photo frames have been around for a while. Most people I know have one (or more) because they received it as a present. After loading it once with pictures, they usually can’t be bothered to reload it again and it just “sits around” repeatedly showing a slideshow of one point in time. Eventually someone in the family gets frustrated enough to unplug the thing and add it to the “trendy gifts we got and aren’t going to use again” box.

Parrot have a few types of digital frames but the one I like the most is their newest addition: the DIA digital frame, developed in collaboration with Jean-Louis Frechin and Uros Petrevski of the NoDesign agency. Continue reading
