Dean Street Townhouse: New Life in Brooklyn, NY

brooklyn-townhouse-bss

Bergen Street Studio, the architects of this Brooklyn, NY townhouse, did not run out of steam after restoring and reconstructing the landmarked facade. The home’s interior also required resurrection to provide a rental flat on the ground floor and a three level owner’s home above. The detailing inside shows that their attention and delight in the details did not wane. Continue reading

Nordstrom Townhouse: Simplicity meets little luxuries in Stockholm

stockholm-townhouse-nrdstrm

Today we are flying North direction Sweden and we are making a stop at the beautiful Scandinavian country’s capital, Stockholm. Our aim is to visit Nordstrom Townhouse. A town house which offers magnificent views to the water surrounding the neighborhood and includes little luxuries like a sauna and a small, nevertheless impressive, swimming pool with a concrete exterior and a variety of turquoise and blue tiles covering its interior. Stylish Victorian home: Magic Mix interiors

London is one of the most interesting, diverse, and fabulous cities in the world and I’d pack my bags if I could live here. So in plan it stacks up like this…floor one has a kitchen and dinette, movie room, bath, and utility. Up on floor two you’ll find the living room. Floor three takes care of guests in two bedrooms and one bath. The main bedroom suite fills the fourth floor that’s topped off with an office and a roof terrace. Continue reading

Palmqvist residence: A Danish family home, Christmas style

christmas-winter-decor-palmqvist4

This home is chosen for the simplicity in which it has been decorated, allowing for all festive elements to be kept just a little bit longer perhaps, extending even to the fist days of January… I personally love to do that. I love to decorate for Christmas in a simple way much like the owner of this house did, creating an atmosphere that celebrates actually more the season of winter. Continue reading

Moja: summer house renovation bringing new life and perspective

summer-house-makeover-moja7

Originally built in 1978, this summer house in Moja, Sweden used to have a rather claustrophobic feel, due to its many walls and lack of natural light. A fireplace positioned in a non favorable manner was another issue. Beautifully renovated, this project shows what wonders tearing down walls and buckets of white paint (…and a wonderful sense of design) can do! Continue reading

Carcary Residence: Mingling Styles in Florida

home-interior-florida-mb

You’re going to love this magical mingling of spirited elegant funky furniture and finishes and fixtures that enliven this Florida home. Nearly the home’s entire interior is washed in white – walls, floors, ceilings. And the white makes a pristine background for the personality pieces that reside there. It’s like an artsy group of friends got together, young and old, sparkly and demure, rough around the edges and polished. Continue reading

Storgatan Residence: Subtle Symphony in Stockholm

home-design-stockholm-st

Good design is music to my eyes. This symphony of elegance and hue variations is composed on a classical structure. Yet this Swedish family home is not stuck in the past. Building on the foundation of expanded and ornately trimmed ceilings and light flooded rooms, these beautiful interiors are finely tuned for today’s living. Continue reading

Converted Loft in Cornwall: Seaside Patina

cornwall-home-conversion

Take a former net loft, fishing nets, in Mousehole, Cornwall, scrub it down and you can enjoy a two hundred year old cozy seaside home. If only it were that easy, we’d all be enjoying the first floor with a living room and kitchen and the ground floor with three bedrooms and two baths. I’m certain this took serious elbow grease and was crafted by someone with no nonsense style. Continue reading

Vintage Casa: A Well-Traveled Home

vintage-home-design-baa8

What I admire most about well-traveled individuals is their ability to travel spontaneously and lightly. They always seem to pack just the perfectly appropriate clothing and items for any weather or situation. Or is it that they adapt very quickly to circumstances? I’m guessing this psychologist/homeowner travels as lightly as his home and in the most stylish way. Continue reading

An unexpectedly wooden apartment in Stockholm

wooden-apartment-flkhm

A wooden… apartment? Somehow the adjective wooden is usually accompanying nouns like table, chair and house but apartment, no! At least not until the Stockholm based construction company Folkhem made it a reality. This lovely apartment is a part of a unique project consisting of 4 houses and 124 apartments in Sundbyberg Beach Park just off the waterfront – all designed by Sweden’s Wingardhs Architects. It will be the very first eight-story building built entirely of wood in this part of Stockholm. I still cannot get over the beauty of this apartment’s exterior and imagine how it would feel to actually be at the veranda totally surrounded by wooden floors, walls in combination with some clear glass and breathtaking views to nature.
