3 Blind Mice: A bright and airy home remodel in Seattle

bright-airy-design-jas

Seattle has a reputation for gloomy weather and if you need a refuge from that, this home is always bright! Completely remodeled, each spacious room has a sunny and airy disposition. The tricks used by JAS Design Build to make this happen are abundant and work like magic. Start by painting all the formerly dark stained wood white with a very soft sheen. And I mean paint nearly all the simple yet precisely crafted wood work white from the beams and beaded wood overhead to the wainscot and window frames. Can you picture the dramatic difference from the dark to white wood? Continue reading

R-N Penthouse: Saluting the skies in Madrid

Little Penthouse loft apartment in Madrid

Having spent three and a half years living in a little Penthouse loft apartment, I confess to having a preference to places that seem to easily greet the sky. Not that detached houses, ground floor apartments or whatever else for that matter cannot move me, so long as the spaces are filled with charm, light , love and of course good interior design planning and details. Rounded Loft Apartment in Prague: Clever Curves

loft-apartment-prague-a1

Often it’s the genius details that define a space. In this Prague loft apartment, architects Lenka Kremenova and David Mastalka put in to practice subtle and sophisticated details. In my humble opinion, you can never go wrong when you start with an angled ceiling space tucked under a historic roof line. In the entrance, a storage unit is sleek and warm and strong at the same time with its graphic wood doors. On the main floor large scale oatmeal-colored tiles and white-washed walls unify and expand the open living, kitchen, and dining areas. Continue reading

Happy family living in Amsterdam

Interior Design - home in Amsterdam

Some posts ago I was sharing here yet another inspiring home in the Netherlands, located in the charming city of Amsterdam, while expressing my desire to be there again for the…6th time! The time has come and just a few days before my flight there, I’m already in the mood for exploring more fabulous domestic environments in the lovely city of canals.

Today, we go through the rooms of a family home, literally bathed in light, thanks to its traditional high ceilings painted bright white – just like the walls and the wooden floors – and the many large windows. Continue reading

Art by the Garden in Little Venice, London

Interior design for family home in London

If working on a Grade I listed London property seems intimidating, this family home shows that it’s worth the effort. English Heritage “Listing is an identification stage where buildings are marked and celebrated as having exceptional architectural or historic special interest, before any planning stage which may decide a building’s future.”

The owners, a creative public relations couple, and their architect, Andy Martin, enliven a contemporary home with style and art. The architect cleared away detail from doors and walls. Ornate ceiling moldings and the original parquet floors were reused. Arranging the private spaces, bedrooms and baths, in the back half of the home graced the living areas with garden light and views. Continue reading

Fantasy Villa: Color Me Happy in Morocco

Modern interior design - Beautiful home interior in morocco

I can’t imagine being more smitten by a color palette than that of this study, which looks anything but studious! In the Tangier, Morocco, home of Bruno Frisoni and Herve van der Straeten, exists a magical blend of history, modernism, color, and neutrals, all woven together much like the city outside their doors. The resident artists’ own pieces are complemented by commissioned works created by the abundant master craftsmen in the local market. Continue reading
