I can’t, I simply can’t get enough of those Danish apartments with the sequenced rooms, separated by gorgeously looking wooden doors! Can you? Do forgive my obsession, but however alike they look, I always experience a rush when encountering one that thrills me in new ways, making me mumble to myself, ” Oh my goodness , I would so love to live here!”. Ascer ceramic house: a three dimensional model full of ideas and charm

When it comes to showcasing the use of a product, the winner goes to anything replicating reality as well and vivid as possible. The Spanish Association of Tile and Ceramic Flooring manufacturers (ASCER) supported the realization of the ceramic house. More specifically, the Madrid based architectural practice around Hector Ruiz-Velazquez realized this showroom, which is planned like a three dimensional object.

The space is divided into several levels and layers, offering a highly flexible utilization, demonstrating how versatile applying ceramic tiles in a living space can be. Indeed there are uses that quite surprised me, as you’ll notice further down. Continue reading

Cottage by the lake in Denmark

lake-cottage-denmark

There is something about Scandinavian summer cottages that pull the strings of my heart towards happiness… much like this one presented today, situated in Tibirke by lake Arreso, owned by the painter Bear Agertved and his girlfriend Maria Krogh. Characterized by rustic elements harmoniously mixed with clean modern lines, it provides a calming environment to spend weekends, rejuvenating, while enjoying the pretty interiors. Continue reading

Home of photographer Jacob Nylud

photographer-home-design-5

Sneaking into the home of a photographer, how’s that for a visual treat? The place Swedish photographer Jacob Nylud calls home seems to be bathed in natural light, thanks to plenty of windows and naturally the choice of the brightest of whites for its walls, which reflect it all over, maximizing the effect.

Simplicity prevails, yet this wouldn’t be characterized as a minimal space, unless we are referring to the classic color combination mainly of black and white. This is the home of someone who loves displaying his favorite things, a person who enjoys bringing home furniture and objects that have stories to tell. Continue reading

Tin tabernacle room: tea, cakes and sandwiches for unforgettable weekends

Sometimes you wonder just how much cuter can a concept, an idea, a space can get, until you stumble upon something that blows your mind in the sweetest of ways. I mean, just look at this little tin house in its perfect classic shape with a triangular roof and all, a little porch and wooden details to totally make out with the grey metallic, semi shiny texture of the metal “skeleton”!

And then just dare to take a step inside, after walking a bit on the yard’s gravel and the porch’s reclaimed wooden floors to be confronted with a totally serene white interior, wooden accessories, stools standing on metal legs and a giant fork and spoon resting on the wall! Continue reading

City modern Manhattan Home tour

This light filled duplex in Manhattan’s Union Square belongs to Daniel and Kate Wadia and has been an unexpected dream come true. After finding this space in a Beaux Arts building in the 5th avenue and having priory lived in a two bedroom apartment in the Flat Iron building, their hopes were totally exceeded.

It comes as no surprise as it is like a house in the sky, in two floors, with three exposures and essentially no neighbors to the right, left or behind. Oh my dear, must I exclaim myself, this sounds like heaven on earth! However to reach to the point of transforming this former four bedroom suburban town house into an urban loft bathed in shades of white, the couple worked closely together with Joseph Tanney from Resolution 4 Architecture for about a year. I have a soft spot for Majorca and I can’t hide it. It’s a marvelous place, combining beautiful beaches, picturesque villages and amazing rides up on high mountains with breathtaking views down the Mediterranean sea. It’s one of these places on earth I feel totally at home.

Sometimes I daydream about owning a house there and today I thought I daydream publicly out loud with you here, while sharing this beautiful stone house on the beloved island. Continue reading

Danish island house: symmetry, tranquility and a sense of space

Oh dear!… I think asides queuing a bunch of adjectives in an effort to catch attention while describing this Danish house located on one of the country’s small islands, I’d rather begin with a big sigh of admiration, an “oh dear” while the pictures do the job.

From the exterior, to the interior, to the atmosphere, to the individual choices of furniture and materials used, this house is simply a marvelous example of how less can be more, of how modern can be beautifully married with traditional touches. Continue reading
