In The Pink: A House Tour

design-tip-color-pink-3

Welcome to the home of Norwegian based ceramic designer, Silje Aune Erikson. Besides having an inspiring Nordic style interior, this home surprises us with bold splashes of neon pink! Quite unusual, yet pretty exciting – it gives the home a unique quality. So unique in fact, that it was featured in the Norwegian Elle Decoration. Continue reading

Living On The Edge

stockholm-apartment-design

I know, I know, another Scandinavian apartment. But can they really help the fact that they’re such a stylish bunch? I don’t think so. Although the interior I’m sharing with you has an undeniably Swedish appeal, it also has a harder edge which is not so typical in the Scandinavian interiors we see so much of these days. It’s also the main reason I think this place is special – it just has so much edge. Continue reading

Jordaan Apartment: Comfortable Industrial Charm

apartment-industrial-design-7

Brick walls, concrete floors, vast open spaces and massive steel framed windows – these are the industrial charms of old factories that make me swoon. Apparently, this was also the case for the family who converted an old factory into this raw yet luxurious home in Amsterdam that we are admiring here today.

I’m also impressed with how comprehensive the home is. The ground floor has a living room, bathroom, office, showroom and double height ceiling dining / kitchen area with access to an enclosed courtyard. The top floor includes the master suite (complete with a dressing room), two extra bedrooms and a studio space. A full guest suite is found in the basement. Work, play, chill – this house can accommodate it all. Continue reading

beach house style 8 - Give Me That Instant Summer Mood

Give Me That Instant Summer Mood

beach-house-style-6

I don’t know about you, but this home instantly puts me in a summer mood. What’s most striking about the interior to me is the combination of beach house style and a chic cottage vibe.

The color scheme is what really pulls the marine vibe into the home. Pale and muted blues and greens remind us of the ocean breeze. Meanwhile, exciting pops of pink and yellow bring the interior to life. Floral and classical patterns make reference to French country. The more classical style of the furniture helps with that too. So yes, there’s definitely a chic beach-y vibe going on, yet it’s all so casual and inviting. Continue reading

interior design color 5 - Not a Single White Wall

Not a Single White Wall

interior-design-color

You may not believe this, but Mikkel’s apartment in Denmark doesn’t have a single white wall in it. Not one. However, his interior design and color scheme choices show us that color and pattern can also be hosts to a bright and airy space. Continue reading

shabby chic design 6 - Shabby Chic, All White, Country Style - Say what?!

Shabby Chic, All White, Country Style – Say what?!

shabby-chic-design-7

I have to admit, I’m not a huge fan of the shabby chic style, but this home does it in a way that makes me feel like changing my mind. I think all the white and the very neutral palette diminishes that “granny” vibe I associate with shabby chic-ness. Also, upon closer inspection, there are some quiet injections of contrasting styles in the home – which makes it all more interesting and unique. To me, this is an important trait for turning any house into a home. Continue reading

Nature and Architecture Become One

modern-interior-design-tree

Paz Arquitectura built this house in Santa Rosalia, Guatemala, with the intention to merge architecture with nature – to impose a structure into a natural landscape with minimal disturbance to the environment.

They succeeded so well, that you will actually find massive trees growing through this home! When you are inside the home, the extensive use of glass makes you feel like you are living at one with the nature outside. Nature creeps into this home, visually and literally. Continue reading

spanish sea side home 7 - A Spanish Sea-Side Home Filled with a Calm Strength

A Spanish Sea-Side Home Filled with a Calm Strength

spanish-sea-side-home

This beautiful Barcelona sea-side home was designed by Spanish interior designer Susanna Cots. I’m sharing it with you here because I’m overwhelmed by the calm strength of this interior.

The lighting and the color scheme of this home is inspired by the sea, the materials and textures pull that mood right in. The rustic heavy wood from the dining table and coffee table remind us of driftwood and provide a perfect balancing contrast to the rest of the smooth, linear space. Continue reading

greek home design 8 - Dreams of Greece: A Seaside Home

Dreams of Greece: A Seaside Home

greek-home-design-1

When you look at the images of this home, you can tell it’s a Greek seaside home by its thick rounded edge white-washed walls, all curvy and soft, and that distinguishable white and blue color palette. It’s all bright, airy and light, balanced out with some strong rustic accents. But then there’s an interesting twist in the decor – a sort of elegant french country flair. Continue reading

nyc home office brick6 - In Brooklyn and Full of Brick

In Brooklyn and Full of Brick

nyc-home-office-brick4

Old exposed brick walls seem like they have so much to say, don’t they? I imagine that maybe once they were covered up but now they’re free. Many of them are worn but have stood the test of time. They exude wisdom and comfort and they seem to offer support and protection.

OK, for those of you who don’t have an absurdly complex connection to brick walls (like me!), you absolutely can not deny their charm. The material itself instantly adds an interesting textural element to any space, like we see happening in this apartment right here. But the brick is only one of the elements that makes this studio apartment so sweet. Continue reading
