A modern day oasis lost in the middle of a massive urban metropolis, the Brillhart House bucks an entire fist full of trends as it provides a lush tropical paradise in the heart of Miami. The house is the brainchild of husband and wife architecture team Brillhart Architecture, who designed it for themselves in part to showcase their visionary approach. The home occupies a single floor and is visually protected on all sides by towering palm trees and a plethora of landscape gardens. Like the winding stream it sits adjacent to, the House on Lac Grenier flows through the landscape, narrow, unassuming and determined to culminate at the lakefront below. Architect Paul Bernier worked closely with the clients to achieve a design that was the most apt manifestation of the physical elements that make its location so special. The aforementioned stream and lake being the cornerstones, filled in with dense woods, rolling topography and plenty of opportunity for majestic views. Sometimes the more limited the space, the more inventive the design. Nowhere is this more true than with the YAK House by Ayutt and Associates Design (AAd) – a project that maximizes a modest plot of land to produce a beautiful modern home in Bangkok, Thailand. Despite the lot being compact, the client wanted to emphasize exterior garden space as being central to the conceptual force behind the design. Many things come to mind at the first glance at the Harbour Master’s House, but only one that rings loud: it’s a building that can just as easily be mistaken for a boat. Pietri Architects have taken a literal approach to designing this public meeting space that rests adjacent to the Mediterranean Sea in the French town of La Londe-les-Maures. The pavilion boasts three ‘decks’ that stack on top of one another in a fashion that can only be described as ‘nautical.’ Continue reading →
